The distance between the vehicle and an obstacle is measured by ultrasound. Sensors are fitted in the bumpers for this purpose. The distance is indicated acoustically by a warning tone. This warning tone changes continuously with the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle: the closer the object comes, the faster the signal beeps and finally becomes a continuous tone in the critical area.
