When selling batteries and devices containing batteries, we are required under the German Battery Law Implementation Act (Batterierecht-Durchführungsgesetz, BattDG) and the EU Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 to inform you of the following.

Waste batteries do not belong in household waste

As an end user, you are legally obliged to collect waste batteries separately from household waste and to return them. This also applies to batteries in devices that can be removed easily.

Where you can return waste batteries

  • To us: We take back waste batteries of the type we sell or have sold as new batteries free of charge: Electronicx GmbH, Hindenburgstr. 37A, 74389 Cleebronn, Germany. Please arrange the drop-off with us in advance: phone +49 7135 7194106 (Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 15:30) or e-mail [email protected].
  • Municipal collection points: recycling centres accept waste batteries free of charge.
  • Retailers and workshops: retailers selling batteries take back waste batteries of that type. Portable batteries can be put into the collection boxes in shops.

Please do not send lead starter batteries or industrial batteries to us by post. They are dangerous goods and may not be shipped by private individuals as a normal parcel. Tape over the terminals of lithium batteries before returning them. Please hand in damaged or swollen lithium batteries only at a collection point and point out the damage there.

What the symbols on the battery mean

  • Crossed-out wheeled bin: the battery must not be disposed of with household waste.
  • Pb: the battery contains more than 0.004 percent lead by mass.
  • Cd: the battery contains more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass.
  • Hg: the battery contains more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass.

Why separate collection matters

Batteries contain substances such as lead, acid, lithium or heavy metals that can harm the environment and health if they end up in household waste or in nature. Damaged lithium batteries can cause fires. Separately collected batteries are recycled; the lead from starter batteries, for example, is recovered.

Deposit on starter batteries in Germany (§ 19 BattDG)

For starter batteries (batteries for cars, motorcycles, scooters, quads or ride-on mowers) sold to end users in Germany, a deposit of € 7.50 including VAT per battery must be charged if no used starter battery is returned at the time of purchase. The deposit is not included in the purchase price.

How to get back a deposit you paid to us:

  • Return a used starter battery to us in Cleebronn (see above).
  • Or return the used battery elsewhere, for example at a recycling centre, a workshop or a retailer, and have the return confirmed in writing or electronically. Send this confirmation together with your order number to [email protected]. It must not be older than two weeks when you submit it.

Leisure, auxiliary and solar batteries (for example for motorhomes or boats) are not starter batteries; no deposit applies to them. We also take these waste batteries back free of charge.
