What is AdBlue and why do you need it?
AdBlue is a highly pure 32.5 percent urea solution in demineralised water. It is injected into the exhaust system of diesel engines with SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and converts harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. Without AdBlue, exhaust gas treatment would not work – the engine control unit then usually prevents the engine from starting or drastically reduces power. Storing, handling and disposing of AdBlue correctly
AdBlue is a sensitive product. Incorrect storage can lead to crystallisation or hydrolysis and make the solution unusable. Please observe the following tips:
- Store AdBlue in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight – temperatures between −5 °C and +25 °C are ideal.
- Frost is generally not a problem: frozen AdBlue thaws again without any loss of quality. Simply allow the canister to thaw at room temperature and shake it gently before use.
- Always use the original pouring spout or a clean funnel that is free from grease and oil when filling.
- Seal opened canisters tightly again immediately to prevent evaporation and contamination.
After opening, AdBlue should be used up within about six months. Small residual amounts and empty canisters do not belong in household waste, but can be handed in as hazardous waste at recycling centres. Larger quantities are accepted by authorised disposal companies.

Can AdBlue freeze?
Yes, AdBlue freezes at around −11 °C. This is completely normal and does not cause any loss of quality. Simply allow the canister to thaw at room temperature and shake it briefly before use.
Which container size should I choose?

Can I top up AdBlue myself?

What happens if I put AdBlue in the diesel tank?
AdBlue in the fuel system can cause serious engine damage. Under no circumstances should you start the engine, and the vehicle should be towed to a specialist workshop immediately. The filler necks are clearly distinguished by colour – the AdBlue tank cap is usually blue.
Do I need to close the tank cap in a special way after filling?
Yes, the tank cap should always be tightly closed so that no atmospheric moisture can enter and the solution does not evaporate. A cap that is not properly seated can also trigger an error message in the on-board computer.
